We knew building a home in the Bahamas would be an adventure.  But we never dreamed it would involve a hurricane and a pandemic!  We finished our home in Abaco about 3 weeks before Dorian hit Abaco.  Dorian devastated the main town of Marsh Harbor and took many innocent lives.  It took several days to start hearing from our friends that had stayed on the island due to power outages.  We were very lucky with our home to have been far enough south that damage was minimized and not to have lost any friends.  

We could not get onto the island for several months after the hurricane.  Once power was restored to the house we made a quick trip over to see for ourselves.  We were able to check on friends and heard countless stories of how terrifying it was for those that remained on the island.  We inspected the house but knew it would be a while before things started to return to normal.  

We still had a few things to get for the house to make it ready and started sending a few more shipments over.  Then we were hit again....this time by COVID.  International travel was stopped and airlines canceled all of the flights.  We were basically locked out of the place we most wanted to be.

After a year of dealing with COVID and both working in healthcare we are more determined than ever to finish our project!!  Final pieces of furniture are at the port in West Palm and ready to go over.  Final Amazon shipments have been received.  While we are ready to spend time at the house, we are also ready to share it with other families so they can discover the wonderful island of Abaco.

COVID update - COVID cases on Abaco continue to be very low and they have started vaccinations using the AstraZeneca vaccine.  There are currently 2 processes to enter the country. 1.  Fully vaccinated .  If you have received the total course of a vaccine and it has been at least 14 days since your final dose you will not need to be tested before entering the Bahamas.  You will need to follow the link below and upload your vaccination card to receive a Bahamas health visa (and pay $40).   You will also need to check the requirements to fly back home for your country.  For the United States, you will have to get a negative test within 3 days of your return flight.  These tests are readily available in Marsh Harbour and you will be given your results t...

Abaco Update!

Just returned from a great week in Abaco.  The post Dorian recovery continues and there are many new restaurants and stores back open.  Our flight over from Miami was completely full as tourists are once again enjoying the Abacos.   We have had a busy last couple of months with guests starting to book and had our first family stay at the home over Christmas!  It is great to see families enjoy the house and experience Abaco.  Several have made the same comments as us over the years...you can do as much or as little as you want and have a great time!  Go fly-fishing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding..or just sit under the tiki and watch the water. In addition to the two fishing kayaks, we just added 2 tandem kayaks to make it easier for families to kayak together. Here are a few photos from our recent trip....hope you enjoy!
